Now in Urban ICT Arena – nine new projects & support for innovation collaboration
Our extensive Vinnova application Open Innovation for Industry has been granted and now nine innovation projects are starting up in open testbed Urban ICT Arena. These projects are part of our aim to develop high-level best practices that facilitate innovation collaboration between large and small companies.

The long-term goal of the project is to increase innovation collaboration between large and small companies, paving the way for Swedish industry to be in the digital forefront and to create new jobs in growing companies.

Documenting, identifying and evaluating the method used and making it accessible.
During and after the project period, reviewing the projects plans and agreements between large and small companies that have received innovation checks. Also documenting and evaluating the results, interviewing participants and following up potential business cases. Writing accessible and useful high level best practices for large and small companies when innovating together.
Real-Time Analytics & Feedback for Out-Of-Home Digital Signage
Sarvai AB & Ericsson AB
Evaluation of key performance indicators for engagement measurements for OOH digital signage and design a targeted A/B testing environment.
At Sarvai, we have developed a platform to significantly reduce the cost and knowledge required for implementing computer vision projects. In this project, we are interested in evaluating functionalities that can benefit OOH advertising companies. This platform is based on Ericsson’s 5G network, Cloud and Edge computing platforms. We will also validate the technology and willingness to pay.
Implementing IBM’s analytic platform for Bumbee Labs data
Bumbee Labs AB & IBM
Visualizing and analyzing innovative visitor data for the smart city.
Bumbee Labs will install WiFi sensors in public city space in order to collect anonymized visitor data to give the city and traffic planners a more complete analytics tool. As a small innovative company, Bumbee Labs gets a lot of attention for its data, but can get an enormous boost from IBM in reaching the smart city market.
Scorecard for monitoring Q&E for digital services
Procera Networks AB & Ericsson
Create a connection between Scorecard (product of Procera) and SDN based management systems, i.e. Ericsson. This will make it possible for Procera to offer this product to more customers.
Procera’s Scorecard is a product that analyzes internet traffic and scores (A-F) on expected experienced quality for seven different applications (web, video, etc.). This is interesting for Ericsson, which works with SDN-based control and networks orchestration. The project connects Procera’s Scorecard to an SDN-based management system where data from Scorecard is used as a base for automated steering of applications such as mobile networks of the kind Ericsson is developing for 5G.
Integration of CargoBeacon with existing logistics processes
CargoBeacon AB & Edsbyns Industri AB
Enable easy use of CargoBeacon and its services with existing logistic processes.
Staff at the factory in Edsbyn needs to be able to equip existing goods with CargoBeacon quickly and easily. The challenge is to quickly connect the system’s unique identity with the company’s own data about the goods (package, order number, etc.). CargoBeacon will first look into details with the logistics manager and staff at Edsbyn and then put the developed functions on an application or server web page to enable connection with existing processes by barcode scanning, API calls and database adaptions.
InnovationSpark Stockholm AB & IBM
Create easier access to qualified legal advice for everyone, through digital channels and machin learning.
The development will utilize AI, text analytics, machine learning and blockchain and it will be an open innovation project with a major industry leader, IBM, enabling a mutual supplier-customer relationship. The end solution will be a commercially and internationally scalable platform that can be used by Individuals, SMEs, large corporations and government institutions.
Video QoE in mobile networks
Agama Technologies AB & Ericsson
Prototype and test a QoE application for mobile networks.
Agama currently has existing products for QoE for video services, and there is a potential to extend the functionality in regards to mobile network assurance.Service-level QoS data could be combined with network monitoring data to better understand how to operate and improve service performance. This project is between Agama, Ericsson and potentially operators in live networks.
CargoBeacon services and KPIs
CargoBeacon AB & Gränges AB
Enable relevant KPIs and services when using CargoBeacon as a subscription.
The project investigates and adapts the solution so that KPIs, services and data is presented in the way required for Gränges. The data is real time and historic environment data on an individual level and from a number of different logs. This is done through iteration where one unit is used for evaluation First. After feedback and any adjustments, another 10 units are transmitted with subscription services.
Professional cleaning with Surfcleaner Technology
SURFCLEANER & Tekniska Verken i Linköping AB
The partners will benefit from the collaboration and be motivated to solve business challenges. We will clean waste from the pools and create a verified first system.
In this collaboration project between Surfcleaner and Tekniska Verken i Linköping AB, we will look into whether it is possible to increase water quality, increase the interval for absolute cleaning of fresh water pools and water towers and also the handling of foam and sludge in sediment pools. We will find out where the need is highest and how existing technology needs to be modified and adapted for this. A full scale model will be constructed to verify the technology developed in the prioritized area.
