Our extensive Vinnova application Open Innovation for Industry has been granted and now nine innovation projects are starting up in open testbed Urban ICT Arena. These projects are part of our aim to develop high-level best practices that facilitate innovation collaboration between large and small companies.
“We are so proud to have been able to present such a compelling case to the ambitious Vinnova team. But we know that our project partners, Ericsson, IBM, Excello Law HB and Bumbee Labs, are really on the cutting edge of ICT innovation, so we have a convincing case,” says Petra Dalunde, COO of Urban ICT Arena and project coordinator.
“In Urban ICT Arena, we have found that the easiest way to create a forum for large and small companies to meet each other, and also their shared (often) largest customer – the public sector – is to hone in on a specific topic. For instance, a workshop about the Smart and Connected Bus Stop, Smart and Connected Indoor City, Smart and Connected Park etc. Kind of like innovation gigs, supporting the gig economy,” she continues.
“When we set up these kinds of workshops in the testbed, it is easier to get representatives from all these entities to come and participate. What we are doing is providing a forum for these different partners to get to know each other’s needs and conditions and help them grow their networks,” Petra adds. The extent to which this generates concrete business cases is going to be continuously measured in the testbed.
With the help of TEYI Services AB in collaboration with Ivar Jacobson International AB, the main project in Open Innovation for Industry strives to shape high-level best practices to support innovation collaboration between large and small companies. Five case projects financed with innovation checks will run in Q3–Q4 2017 to develop the high-level best practices. The next three case projects during Q1–Q2 2018, also financed with innovation checks, will be used for proof of concept. The startups and SMEs participating in this are Agama Technologies AB, Bumbee Labs AB, CargoBeacon AB, InnovationSpark Stockholm AB, Procera Networks AB, Sarvai AB and SurfCleaner AB.
The long-term goal of the project is to increase innovation collaboration between large and small companies, paving the way for Swedish industry to be in the digital forefront and to create new jobs in growing companies.
