6lowpan and open api platform by intel

A world leader

in computing innovation, Intel designs and builds the essential technologies that serve as the foundation for the world’s computing devices. As a leader in corporate responsibility and sustainability, Intel also manufactures the world’s first commercially available “conflict-free” microprocessors.

Intel has established

a number of IoT Ignition Labs as a place to Innovate, Collaborate, and Scale in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Sweden, Israel, Dubai and Turkey which are closely linked to enable shared innovation and marketing. Intel’s focus in Urban ICT Arena is on Smart Sustainable Cities, buildings and communications infrastructure (e.g. 5G and low power IP sensor networks).

The aim is

to accelerate innovation, create key proof-points in terms of business and sustainability value and to drive scale out of solutions on a global basis.

Open innovation

with world-leading end-user companies, innovation companies, scaling partners and leading researchers is harnessed to achieve this aim. One of Intel’s key strategies is to establish the “eco-system of eco-systems” to enable maximum development and innovation.

industry transformational solutions are a priority. These solutions are based on a horizontal, IP-based architecture aligned with internet standards.

Actions within Urban ICT Arena

Intel sees the arena as the perfect place to pilot the next generation world-leading horizontal, open, secure, standardized, software-defined, IP-based infrastructure for Smart Cities in collaboration with leading companies, cities and academia. In addition, it provides a digital platform for piloting specific use cases to drive citizen value, business innovation and enable the lowest possible ecological footprint in line with the SDGs and COP21 climate targets.

Intel plans to participate in and initiate several projects in line with this.

In its first project, Intel is establishing IP-based communications infrastructure  6LoWPAN  in collaboration with CyanConnode and with the support of RISE ICT and Stokab to enable an open standard-based testbed for smart city applications in Urban ICT Arena intended for utility use cases such as energy, water, air and traffic.
