Ericsson Garage has delivered nine new startups with super exciting frontrunner projects to Urban ICT Arena! They vary from advanced and user friendly payment services, top notch drones for cities, exciting and smart facility management and park services, cyber security, and easy to use application tools to brilliant communication and blockchain solutions. We are so grateful and proud and would like to wish them all a warm welcome!
This year Ericsson Garage joined forces with Capital A Partners (CAP A), and their Nordic partner seed fund, Butterfly Ventures – and that collaboration started off with a bang! Ericsson Garage held a super exiting Dragon’s Den at the Ericsson Studio as part of #STHLMTechFest Safari. This summer, they challenged startups to tackle the Sustainable Development Goals in smart manufacturing, sustainable transport and data security/identity management in an IoT ecosystem. And what a wonderful evening we had! Read more about the start-up challenge below the slide show.
But the event had so much more on the agenda in store for the audience:
- The event even consisted of a fireside chat with Sandor Albrecht, Founder of Ericsson Garage, our very own Petra Dalunde, COO of Urban ICT Arena, and Joseph Michael, Head of Startups/Tech at Invest Stockholm.
- The audience was given the opportunity to witness a remote interview with Ericsson South Africa and Wot-If Trust on how the new eHub will help entrepreneurs from resource-poor regions overcome their challenges. This was a truly inspirational lesson from startups and founders that have emerged from the Thinkubation program.
- The Ericsson’s Strategic Design unit had teamed up with UN-Habitat to explore digital innovations in community-led urban design. UN-Habitat’s established Block by Block process allows citizens to participate in urban planning by using Minecraft as a tool to express and discuss ideas for designing better public spaces and more sustainable cities. How cool is that!
This was a rare chance for startups to win technology incubation with the global network of #EricssonGarage, unlimited access to Urban iCT Arena – and an express pass to a final decision investment meeting with Capital A Partners and their partner fund, Butterfly Ventures.
During this summer, tons of startups applied for the chance to pitch their ideas in front of a live Dragon´s Den consisting of

The finalists of Ericsson Garage Startup Challenge were (sorted from grand prize to third prize):
hiveonline is a transformational platform addressing small businesses’ boring problems with leading edge technology. Our platform integrates administration and financial tools, with contracts and automatic payments at the core, so our customers – the 74% of small businesses who don’t work in offices – can manage complex customer relationships and supply chains on site. By storing how they meet commitments, decisions, certificates and other evidence, we take the guesswork out of their supplier and customer relationships, via blockchain-based tailored trust profiles, so they can demonstrate they meet customers’criteria such as delivery and reliability.
Vyer enables Building Information Modelling (BIM) for facility management. BIM has reduced costs and waste in construction of new buildings for decades. Vyer extends that capacity to the maintenance and management of buildings. 40% of world energy is consumed by buildings. By using energy in a building only where it is needed, we can cut this number in half. Global corporates are installing the IoT hardware, which collects the data for enabling such a change. We at Vyer package that data in a way that can be accessed by humans, and visualized in interactive, data-driven 3D models.
Sensefarm develops products for precision farming and grounds care. We help to optimize agricultural yields by measuring soil moisture, temperature and precipitation. In cities and parks, our equipment assists contractors and property managers in the management of trees, flowers, golf courses and lawns.
Kelisec provides an innovative new method for transmitting secure communications. Today’s 50 year-old static security solutions will be dead in about 5 years time if the quantum computer doesn’t get you before that. The big picture for security in terms of tomorrow’s needs is centered on a dynamic “one-time-pad” that changes every nano second for authentication and encryption without key distribution. Continuous mutation ensures enhanced security and enables immediate account control. Kelisec solutions are easily scalable and independent of platform, easy to install, integrate and use.
Secumobi has a product that has been developed by Swedish experts in communications and encryption. The SECUMOBI platform has been developed and powered by the state of the art secure communication engine based on Voice over IP. The solution is unique from architecture and the encryption quality of the voice. SECUMOBI offers a safe and affordable solution to meet any organisation’s need to simply and effectively protect information.
Chainside provide software and hardware solutions to help businesses leverage the opportunities of blockchain. The company makes a secure integration with blockchain as simple as an API call,

KATLA is democratizing airspace by building the world’s first affordable eVTOL kit plane. Everyone has at some point in life dreamt of owning a ying car. Roads are ugly and expensive. Cars are polluting the air and an ineffective mean of transportation that can seldom offer direct, point-to-point transportation. Aerial transportation is a much better solution for certain use cases, but still expensive and available exclusively for a small market of rich people. However, as the cost of energy storage and electronics drops exponentially and gets smarter, new innovations flourish. We have designed and developed an affordable eVTOL “ying car”, essentially a massive drone, that has solved many of the challenges connected with drones and cities. Our vehicle is safer, more sustainable (electric) and has better aerial properties than any vessel currently on the market.
