What a year it has been! During the Urban ICT Arena Summit 2017, I realized how much we all have accomplished and it really moved me. We have created a place where you can come and develop, explore and discover the future together with a lot of exciting people from academia, industry and the public sector, as well as citizens. We have created an open testbed in four layers – hardware, software, services and business models. We have reached over 60 projects, 40 partners and more than 20 start-ups. In short, success.
So what have we learned so far? This year we learned that 15% of digitialization is about the technology and 85% about organization and mind-set and also that we all – even on an individual level – need to let ourselves be disrupted in order to find a new business model. We also discovered that yoga creates stability in an ever-changing world and that it will never happen in large organizations if the responsibility solely rests with the old IT departments.
We are glad to start 2018 by welcoming ABB on board as a Founding Partner. They will have projects in all layers and push digitalization forward in collaboration with partners and project owners in Urban ICT Arena.
Jumping in to 2018, this year will be about helping SMEs get innovative and make the most of the possibilities offered by that digitalization. As partners of the Frontrunners EU project, we will drive progress within these areas but also see if it would be possible to create an innovation platform for women in the suburbs.
We are also aiming to land the knowledge database within RISE and I am looking forward to working on that. We are also developing an evaluation tool for our project owners, so that the knowledge and results from every project can be extracted and shared with the potluck of Urban ICT Arena.
Large projects AUTOPILOTEN, Just data! and Open Innovation for Industry got off the ground and a lot of focus will be dedicated to following them closely, so stay tuned to the website for exciting news!
We have also talked about creating a fifth layer – a behavior layer – in order to experiment with how smart services, data as currency and the Automagic City should be designed.
As you understand, we have a lot to look forward to when it comes to 2018. I am so happy and thankful to be able to share this journey with you, because it is you guys, partners and project owners, that organically are driving Urban ICT Arena’s growth and development into what it now represents.
