Autopiloten

The first self-driving bus in regular service in Sweden was tested in Kista. Together with our partners, including Nobina and Ericsson, we took part in the project Autopiloten. For 6 months, the bus drove on the streets of Kista, acting as a proof of concept. The bus is now being used in nearby Barkarby in regular service.

Two small buses with seats for twelve passengers was in service on weekdays between 7 am and 6 pm from January 24, 2018. The bus was operating free of charge for the general public. The route was be between Jan Stenbeck Torg and the Scandic Victoria Tower along Kistagången.

The bus was a success – it faced some issues regarding other cars who had parked in no-parking zones. It did however handle winter conditions better than expected. David Erixon at Nobina commented:

What has caused some delays were other vehicles that were parked incorrectly. If something gets in the way, the buses do exactly what they are supposed to do: stop. We have also received some comments that buses run slowly – but safety comes first in a test like this. Now that we know how well they work in traffic, the speed will increase.

After the test was finalized in Kista, the buses are now operating in nearby Barkarby.
